Born in South Africa and educated in the UK, New Zealand and the US, Tim Barnes graduated with a B.Arch in 1980 from Victoria University of Wellington. He recently completed his M.Arch at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He also holds degrees in English Literature, Computer Science, and Building Science from Victoria University. He is an Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects.
After working on a range of building projects for the Architectural Department of the Ministry of Works and Development in New Zealand, Mr. Barnes carried out research and participated in software development for computer-aided architectural design. He subsequently worked in a diverse range of occupations, including artificial intelligence, marketing, consulting and business strategy.
In recent years his output has included a play (now developed into an opera), a children’s novel, two technical volumes and furniture designs.
His extra-curricular interests include music, sailing, and technology.
Mr. Barnes is a member of the Board of Directors of West Bay Opera, and a member of the Board of Trustees of South Bay Preparatory School.
